Delhi based girl Deepika is playing the female lead who is Anas Rashid’s love interest in Diya Aur Baati Hum on Star Plus. Initially it was Anas and Hina who were supposed to play the leads. Deepika is essaying the character of Sandhya on the show. Her character Sandhya wants to be an IPS officer but due to unforeseen circumstances she got married to an uneducated man Suraj (Anas Rashid).

Deepika has done theatre in Delhi and this will be her debut show. The first pilot was shot last year in the month of December. Since then the shooting has been postponed. It is also heard that the pilot has been re-shot with the new star cast and the production team is planning to wrap up the outdoor shoots at Pushkar before it starts raining. The shooting is scheduled to start in the month of June
